About  Me

I'm currently the Instructor of Flute at Miles College in Birmingham, AL and Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL. I am a doctoral candidate in flute performance at the University of Alabama as well as an active solo, chamber, and orchestral performer.
I have also pursued opportunities in music business through the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra as the Audience and Administrative Manager.

Mallory Harrison is the Instructor of Flute at Miles College in Birmingham, AL and Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL, where she has presented several masterclasses and recitals. She is also a doctoral candidate at the University of Alabama studying under Dr. Diane Boyd Schultz. As part of her teaching assistantship, Mallory performs regularly as principal flute with the Huxford Symphony Orchestra​ and Huxford Wind Quintet, teaches private lessons to undergraduate and graduate students, and teaches weekly technique and excerpt classes. She has presented workshops at the Florida Flute Festival, Atlanta Flute Festivals, and the Mid-South Flute Festival, and she was a judge for the High School Young Artist Competition at the Mid-South Flute Festival in 2025. She has also pursued arts administration opportunities as the Audience and Administrative manager and librarian of the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra.

 

As a performer, Mallory has been recognized in several competitions throughout the United States. Most recently, she won first prize in the Atlanta Flute Club and South Carolina Flute Society Young Artist Competitions and competed as a finalist in the Florida Flute Association's Nancy Clew Eller Artist Competition. She was a prizewinner in the Mid-South Flute Festival’s Young Artist Competition in 2024 and 2025, and performed as principal flutist of the National Flute Association’s Professional Flute Choir in 2024. Mallory toured internationally as principal flutist with the Prague Summer Nights Young Artist Festival in the summer of 2024 as well. She has performed with the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra and is a sub for the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra.

 

Mallory previously attended Harding University where she studied under Susan Antonetti and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in music and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. During her time at Harding she acted as principal flutist of the Wind Ensemble and the Harding Symphony Orchestra. Highlights of her undergraduate studies include performing as a soloist with the Harding University Wind Ensemble and performing in new music chamber groups for student composers. Following her undergraduate studies, Mallory spent a year studying with Alice K. Dade at the University of Missouri at Columbia. There she was a member of the Wind Ensemble and held a teaching assistantship in music theory. Mallory received her Masters Degree in Flute Performance from the University of Central Arkansas studying under Dr. Carolyn Brown. At UCA, Mallory held a teaching assistantship and was a member of the Wind Ensemble and the UCA Chamber Winds.

 

Mallory has performed in masterclasses for Ransom Wilson, Tara Helen O'Connor, Maxim Rubstov, Erika Boysen, Meghan Bennett, and Marina Piccinini. In 2020, Mallory was invited to attend the Eastern Music Festival and participated in virtual masterclasses and lessons with Les Roettges, Ann Choomack, and Jake Fridkis. She also performed in the 2020 ARIA International Summer Academy masterclasses with Donna Shin, Linda Toote, and Judith Mendenhall. She has also studied with Staff Sgt. Christina Hughes, Brian Gordon, and Wendy Stern.
